The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, along with the Minister of Health, Mónica García, have held a key meeting with the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health, aimed to coordinate the protocols that will be implemented for the disembarkation and transfer of passengers from the ship ‘MV Hondius’ arriving in the Canary Islands. In total, it is expected that 14 Spaniards will be transferred to Madrid, while the rest of the passengers will return to their countries of origin.
This meeting is part of the constant communication between the Government of Spain and the Government of the Canary Islands, established since the beginning of the health crisis caused by the hantavirus. The ministers have expressed their full willingness to ensure that the transfers are carried out with the highest health guarantees, both for the sick and for the general population.
The 147 passengers heading to the Canary Islands from Cape Verde have been reported as asymptomatic. Additionally, it has been decided that the ship will anchor at the Port of Granadilla, Tenerife, due to the technical limitations of the port for the disembarkation of people. The ministers have urged citizens to maintain responsibility and trust in science, and have scheduled several additional technical meetings to continue coordinating efforts with the Government of the Canary Islands and the authorities of the European Union.
