The Romanian Government has formally requested its NATO allies for “the deployment of additional anti-drone capabilities on its territory to strengthen its defense and the eastern flank of the Alliance, in accordance with the instructions of the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe (SACEUR),” according to a statement sent to DiplomacyNews by the Romanian Embassy in Spain.

Following the impact of a Russian drone in the town of Galati, the Ilie Bolojan Executive has made Russia “the sole responsible for this incident” which, according to the statement, “is a direct consequence of the Russian aggression war against Ukraine, in the irresponsible and indiscriminate manner in which Moscow operates these weapon systems near NATO’s borders, as well as the systematic disregard for international law.” The note adds that, despite Moscow’s denials, “there is no doubt about the author or the cause of this aggression.”

The Romanian Ministry of Defense, along with the local authorities of Galați, has initiated a “thorough investigation into the circumstances of the drone’s fall and has requested the intervention of technical experts to recover fragments that allow for precise identification of the type of weapon and its trajectory.”

Romania has announced that it will formally inform the United Nations Security Council about this brutal and repeated violation of international law by the Russian Federation.”

In a brief statement published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of Spain “strongly condemns the incursion into Romania by a Russian drone that has reached the Romanian city of Galati, injuring two people, to whom we wish a speedy recovery.”

Spain, the statement concludes, “expresses all its solidarity with Romania, a partner in the EU and an ally of NATO. Spain demands a ceasefire from Russia that ends the aggression against Ukraine and leads to a just and lasting peace.”
