In the context of the activities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union, a working meeting took place last Thursday between the First Vice President of the Government of Spain and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, and the ambassadors of the European Union.
During the meeting, the Minister of Economy shared Spain’s position on the progress of negotiations regarding the new Multiannual Financial Framework, one of the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency, and also addressed issues related to Europe’s competitiveness, among other matters.
Likewise, those present exchanged views on economic issues and current topics, including global economic challenges and Europe’s role in this context.
On the other hand, at a commemorative event for the Day of Europe held yesterday Saturday in the Plaza de la Villa de Madrid, the ambassador of Cyprus in Spain, Michalis Ioannou, participated with the presidency of the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.
The ceremony brought together representatives of European institutions, Spanish authorities, and members of the Diplomatic Corps to celebrate the values that inspire the European project: peace, unity, solidarity, and cooperation. The event included the traditional raising of the European Union flag accompanied by Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” the anthem of Europe. Additionally, the Cypriot ambassador also participated as a speaker in the raising of the European flag organized by the Community of Madrid at the Town Hall of Las Rozas.
