The European Commission disbursed more than 7.130 billion euros to Spain (5.970) and Czechia (897) yesterday under the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism (RRM). The Mechanism is the central element of NextGenerationEU, the Commission’s post-pandemic program to contribute to recovery, economic growth, and the competitiveness of member states.
Spain will receive 6.230 billion euros (excluding pre-financing), which includes 5.970 billion euros related to the sixth payment request and 265 million euros related to the revoked suspensions of the fifth payment request.
This represents an important advance in the implementation of reforms and investments that strengthen the regulatory framework for housing construction, bolster the healthcare system, support sustainable mobility, improve the digitalization of the railway network of the trans-European transport network, and execute strategic projects for economic recovery and transformation.
The disbursement of 5.970 billion euros (excluding pre-financing) corresponds to Spain’s sixth payment request, submitted on March 3, 2026, which was partially approved by the Commission on July 2, 2026.
The 265 million euros correspond to two milestones, and their payment was suspended in the fifth payment request. This amount is now unlocked, as Spain has successfully completed a pending milestone in the digitalization of regional and local entities, and the Commission has positively assessed the new measures adopted regarding a milestone in taxation.
The evaluation of the remaining three objectives under the sixth payment request is ongoing, pending resolution of Spain’s request for clarification of the application requirements.
With this sixth payment, Spain will have received 78.000 billion euros, that is, 76.5% of the total of 102.000 billion euros allocated to it; thus, 60% of all milestones and objectives of its national recovery and resilience plan are met.
Czechia will be granted 897 million euros (excluding pre-financing) to contribute to the construction of new cardiovascular medicine and transplant facilities, the improvement of the quality of colorectal cancer preventive screening, the introduction of telemedicine and electronic health services, the review of the rules on electricity network tariffs, and the provision of services to companies expanding abroad.
The Commission has disbursed funds to both countries following the favorable opinion of the Economic and Financial Committee of the Council. Payments made under the RRM to all member states are based on results, specifically the successful execution of their national plans.
With the aim of completing the Mechanism by the end of 2026, member states must complete all pending milestones and objectives by no later than August 2026 and submit the final payment requests by the end of September.
