The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, through the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), has signed a framework agreement with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) with the aim of strengthening local policies for the integration and inclusion of foreign individuals.
According to Pilar Cancela, Secretary of State for Migration, “integration is a shared responsibility that can only succeed with inter-institutional collaboration”. In this sense, local entities are considered the first point of access to services and participation, making this agreement fundamental for building cohesive and inclusive communities. This agreement seeks to promote intercultural coexistence and prevent racism, xenophobia, and other forms of intolerance.
The pact establishes a stable framework for cooperation that will allow to promote awareness initiatives, training, and the exchange of good practices to strengthen municipal capacities. Among the commitments is the implementation of citizenship and coexistence plans, as well as the carrying out of campaigns to combat racism and hate crimes, thus ensuring the full integration of migrants in all areas of social life.
