The Embassy of Ecuador has conveyed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, the public complaint made by the Ecuadorian Electoral Contention Tribunal regarding alleged death threats directed against electoral judge Joaquín Viteri Llanga, attributed to transnational organized crime groups.

In the statement issued by the Ecuadorian Embassy, it is noted that “Ecuador maintains a clear and unwavering position in defense of democracy, citizen security, the independence of state functions, and the fight against transnational criminal structures that seek to affect peace, justice, and the normal functioning of public institutions.”

This communication shows, according to the diplomatic mission, “international cooperation in the face of the challenges posed by transnational organized crime.”

The note from the Embassy of Ecuador in Spain concludes by stating that “it will continue to develop the corresponding diplomatic efforts within the scope of its competencies and will maintain the necessary institutional coordination with the relevant authorities.”
