From May 25 to 29, coinciding with Africa Day (May 25), the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria opens a new edition of Bridge to Africa, a strategic initiative aimed at consolidating an international academic hub in the Canary Islands between Europe and Africa.
Led by the two public universities in the Canary Islands – the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of La Laguna – Bridge to Africa (BtÁ) has the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, and Casa África, as well as institutions, companies, and educational centers for training, research, and international cooperation with West Africa.
In its second edition, Bridge to Africa brings together institutional leaders, researchers, international experts, companies, and organizations to reflect on the main challenges and cooperation opportunities between both continents. During the week, the meeting will host keynote lectures, institutional and business round tables, technical expert sessions, and the IV International Congress of Young Researchers on Africa.
The program will address some of the key areas for shared development between the Canary Islands and Africa, such as the environment and energy transition; health and health cooperation; education, research, and cooperation; sustainable economy and innovation; and African culture, society, and geopolitics.
Additionally, Bridge to Africa features a parallel cultural program with exhibitions, cultural events, and concerts that will bring the public closer to the artistic diversity of the African continent, thus consolidating itself as a space for dialogue, knowledge, and collaboration that reinforces the role of the Canary Islands as a bridge between Europe and Africa.
