The Ambassador of South Korea, Lim Soosuk, had a cordial meeting with Queen Sofia, mother of King Felipe VI of Spain.

It is worth remembering that Queen Sofia attended the opening ceremony of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, representing the Spanish Royal House, then accompanied by the Prince of Asturias, now King Felipe VI. Likewise, Infanta Cristina, the second daughter of Queen Sofia, participated in those Olympic Games as a member of the Spanish national sailing team.

This meeting has reflected the special ties that unite the Spanish Royal House and the Republic of Korea.

Diplomatic relations between Spain and South Korea are at an excellent historical moment of strategic partnership, having officially commemorated their 75th anniversary in March 2025. Both countries maintain an uninterrupted bilateral bond of friendship and global cooperation that was originally established in 1950.
