Innovation and Sustainability: a new era for smart tourist destinations

The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario Sánchez, announced in Vitoria-Gasteiz the beginning of a new phase for the model of smart tourist destinations (DTI), focused on enhancing sustainability and innovation. This effort aims to improve the quality of life for residents and enrich the experience of visitors.

The announcement was made during the closing of the VIII Meeting of Managers of the Network of Smart Tourist Destinations, titled “People who make destinations. The intelligence that transforms tourism.” This meeting has been fundamental to reflect on the future of the DTI, a model promoted by the Secretary of State for Tourism and managed by SEGITTUR, which has been in effect for more than ten years.

Sánchez emphasized that tourist intelligence must go beyond mere adoption of technology, seeking a more efficient management of territories. The new phase of the DTI model will include updates that address environmental and social sustainability, adapting indicators to the new realities of the sector and recognizing the diversity of tourist destinations to offer a more personalized support.
