The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, visited the ‘General Morillo’ Base in Pontevedra, where she highlighted the fundamental role of the ‘Galicia’ Brigade in organizing the Armed Forces Day (DIFAS), recently celebrated in Vigo.
During her visit, Robles acknowledged the efforts of the BRILAT, which was responsible for the accommodation, food, and transportation of the 2,500 personnel who participated in this important event, including collaboration with the City Council of Vigo.
The BRILAT has not only demonstrated its logistical capacity in national events but also has a long history in international operations, having participated in 31 missions in countries such as Kosovo, Iraq, and Lebanon between 1995 and 2017. In the last year, its most notable action was in the NATO ‘Strong Lineage’ Exercise in Slovakia, where they deployed 2,000 soldiers and more than 400 vehicles, in addition to their recognized ‘Galician Sentinel’ Operation against wildfires.
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the BRILAT, Robles inaugurated the Historical Room, which represents the rich history of this unit rooted in Galicia. “Galicia cannot be understood without the BRILAT, nor the BRILAT without Galicia,” emphasized the minister. Additionally, the implementation of new training courses for deployed military personnel was announced, which will not only improve their skills but also facilitate their job placement upon completing their service.
