The Deputy Secretary of Industry and Tourism and President of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), Pablo Garde, visited the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante today, accompanied by the director of the OEPM, Elisa Rodríguez.
The EUIPO is the agency responsible for managing trademarks and designs at the European level, as well as coordinating geographical indications for artisanal and industrial products.
During this meeting, Garde was received by João Negrão, Executive Director of the EUIPO, and members of his management team. The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between both institutions, seeking to establish a robust industrial property system that favors innovation and economic growth in a changing global context.
The Spanish delegation also learned about the EUIPO’s Strategic Plan 2030 and global trends in the field of trademarks and designs. The report “IP backed finance in Europe: state of play and future perspectives” was presented, highlighting the growing productivity gap of Europe compared to economies like the United States and China. Cooperation is materialized annually through an agreement aimed at improving legal certainty and promoting digitalization and the exchange of best practices.
