The next August 16. a technical team from the Ministry of Youth and Childhood will travel to Ceuta to expedite the procedures for the solidarity reception of unaccompanied migrant children.
Currently, there are 1,342 minors registered in the Ceuta reception system, a situation that presents challenges but which, according to Minister Sira Rego during her visit to the autonomous city, is already being controlled.
Rego, who expressed her “deep sorrow” for the recent “tragedy” in which 140 people died, also announced that the Sectoral Conference on Youth and Childhood will be urgently convened to approve an extraordinary credit of 25 million euros allocated to the city.
The minister emphasized that measures are being taken to accelerate the reception timelines, enabling new spaces and facilitating the necessary interviews and registrations. “Our commitment to these children is absolute,” Rego stated, who also highlighted the importance of the solidarity reception mechanism implemented by the Government of Spain last year. The priority will be family reunification, although each case will be analyzed individually by specialized technical teams that will ensure the best interests of the child.
