“I carry with me the honor of having led a Diplomatic Mission that, in accordance with the principles of your Presidency, kept the doors open to our compatriots, supported the valuable performance of the collectives and associations of Colombian identity abroad, and worked hand in hand with the Spanish authorities in favor of our migrant population,” states Ambassador Eduardo Ávila in his farewell letter to President Gustavo Petro, whose term will end on August 6.

For this reason, Ávila also presents in the letter his “irrevocable resignation” from the position of ambassador in Spain and coincides it with August 6.

Eduardo Ávila, who presented his Credentials to King Felipe VI on January 23, 2023, reviews in the letter to Gustavo Petro the achievements during his time at the head of the Colombian Mission in Madrid: the inclusion in the recent regularization of foreigners of a large number of Colombians; the deepening of relations with Spain and Andorra; and working with human rights collectives in recognizing those who were victims in the context of the Colombian conflict.

Eduardo Ávila, an entrepreneur from Boyacá and a friend of Gustavo Petro, concludes his letter reiterating “my unwavering loyalty to you, to the democratic mandate that arose from the polls in 2022, and to the political and social values that you represent.”
