The Social Security in Spain has surpassed for the first time the figure of 3.5 million foreign affiliates in terms of average affiliation during the month of July, thus reaching a significant milestone.
Specifically, the system has registered 3,512,223 foreign affiliates, which represents an increase of 66,046 compared to the previous month and a notable increase of 420,875 compared to the previous year. This year-on-year growth of 13.6% contrasts with the 2.9% of the total system.
Discounting seasonality, the number of foreign affiliates stands at 3,407,558, with an addition of 408,333 in the last twelve months. Since June 2022, the number of workers from other countries has increased by more than 1.2 million, and it is estimated that 46.3% of the jobs generated since the implementation of the labor reform have been occupied by foreigners. This growth is manifested in an increasingly diverse labor market, encompassing both sectors with high demand for labor and those requiring higher qualifications.
This surge in affiliation has been driven, in part, by an extraordinary regularization process that began at the end of April. By the end of July, 262,475 foreign workers had registered with Social Security thanks to this initiative. Of this group, 81.5% fall under the General Regime and 4.8% as self-employed. Additionally, there is a clear trend towards job stability, with 86.4% of foreign workers on permanent contracts, a figure that contrasts notably with the 58.9% recorded before the labor reform.
