The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, visited the renovated Ieronimus space in the city of Salamanca yesterday, an important part of the cathedral complex that has been modernized thanks to the city’s Tourism Sustainability Plan.
This project has been financed with 3.5 million euros from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and aims to promote more sustainable and responsible tourism.
During his tour, Minister Hereu was able to observe the various improvements implemented in the cathedral complex, which include the creation of new visitable spaces, exhibition resources, and immersive audiovisual proposals. One of the main innovations is the opening to the public of the under-roof space, which will offer visitors the opportunity to explore lesser-known areas of this emblematic place.
The minister emphasized that these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to a tourism model that is not only sustainable and digital but also generates added value and enriches the experience of tourists. During his visit, he was accompanied by the dean of the cathedral, Jorge García Gómez, the government subdelegate in Salamanca, Rosa María López Alonso, and the fourth deputy mayor, Fernando Rodríguez Alonso. In addition, Hereu visited the Fonda Veracruz, where work has been done to recover it as a cultural and welcoming center.
