The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, participated this Monday via videoconference in the meeting of the Coalition of Volunteers for Ukraine, which was held as part of the 35th anniversary of the restoration of the country’s independence.

During his speech, Albares emphasized Spain’s strong commitment to a just and lasting peace, as well as to the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, respecting its internationally recognized borders.

The minister expressed Spain’s strongest condemnation of the continuous Russian attacks, especially those directed against the civilian population and critical infrastructure. In this regard, he emphasized that Spain will continue to provide support to Ukraine in the diplomatic, military, financial, and humanitarian fields, in close coordination with its European partners and allies.

In addition, Albares highlighted that Spain is part of the founding group of the new Ballistic Missile Defense Coalition, which aims to strengthen the protection of Ukraine against threats that jeopardize European security. He also reaffirmed Spain’s support for Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union and for the reforms promoted by the Ukrainian authorities, despite the difficulties imposed by the war.
