XXX Ibero-American Summit

Tomorrow Tuesday at 11 a.m., the Fundación Alternativas presents its Ibero-America Report 2026.

With the presentation of the Ibero-America Report 2026, you are invited to participate alongside experts and high-level actors in a conversation at Casa América regarding the meaning and the present and future role of Ibero-America, as well as the strategic opportunity for Latin America and for Spain, as the host country of the XXX Ibero-American Summit. Challenges such as building consensus on key issues -digital, green, or social- or on new cooperation agendas: migrations and diasporas, funds for natural disasters, or care policies will be addressed.

The XXX Ibero-American Summit in Madrid in November 2026 marks an important moment for Spain and Ibero-America. In an international present marked by fragmentation and polarization, Spain takes on the challenge of hosting a difficult summit for the fourth time. The meeting takes place in a context of serious crisis in multilateralism and disruptions of the international order. Trade wars and protectionism; crisis of development cooperation; proliferation of armed conflicts; or fierce competition between Trump’s U.S., China, Russia, Europe, and emerging powers.

After welcoming words from León de la Torre, general director of Casa América, the Report will be presented by Vicente Palacio, director of Foreign Policy of the Fundación Alternativas. Following this, there will be a special intervention by Francisco Javier Gassó, General Director for Ibero-America and the Caribbean, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation, to give way to Beatriz Paredes Rangel, politician, diplomat, and writer, who will speak about Ibero-America, Mexico, and Spain at the Summit.

At 11:30 a.m. Session 1 will begin, titled Ibero-America: Strategic Opportunity and New Agendas, in which Ana Paula Penchaszadeh, co-author of the Report. CONICET-UBA; José Miguel Natera, co-author of the Report. UNAM (online), and Susana de Prado Hernández, director of the Office for Digital Spain 2030 and Internationalization will participate. Francisco Verdes-Montenegro, professor of International Relations, UCM-ICEI  and coordinator of the Report will moderate.

Session 2, which will begin at 12:30 p.m., will consist of a Conversation led by Andrés Allamand, Ibero-American Secretary General, and Vicente Palacio.

To attend the event, it is necessary to register at this link. It is also possible to follow the event via YouTube.
