The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, participated in a day organized by ICEX Spain Export and Investments, where the impact of Spanish companies on the development of the high-speed network in the Baltic countries was discussed.
During the meeting, Puente met with Kuldar Leis, Minister of Infrastructure of Estonia; Jānis Zlamets, Ambassador of Latvia; Roderikas Žiobakas, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania and Elżbieta Łukaniuk, Advisor of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland.
The leaders debated the Rail Baltica project, a railway initiative that will connect the Baltic countries and Poland with the Trans-European Transport Network, as well as with important European ports such as Rotterdam, Hamburg, and Antwerp. Puente emphasized that this development represents a significant advance in European integration, contributing to the autonomy and security of the region.
Spain has positioned itself as a key player in this project, with the largest number of companies involved. Of the nine design tenders, seven have been awarded to Spanish firms, such as Ineco and Renfe. Puente expressed his desire for this meeting to strengthen bilateral relations and reiterated Spain’s commitment to making Rail Baltica a reality, urging public institutions to support such projects to ensure the necessary safety and certainty for participating companies.
