The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, has highlighted the need for Spain to assume a key role in building a strong and competitive European industry in a world characterized by geopolitical instability.

During his speech at the IND+I Day 2026, a reference forum on industrialization and innovation celebrating its tenth anniversary in Viladecans, Hereu emphasized that industrial leadership is a strategic decision that requires ambition, cooperation, and a long-term vision.

Throughout his speech, the minister underscored the importance of reinforcing Europe’s strategic autonomy, reindustrializing with sustainable criteria, and promoting large pan-European projects that ensure supply and allow for scaling. In this regard, Hereu highlighted that Spain is in a favorable position thanks to the energy transition, the push for renewable energies, and digitalization, which opens opportunities to attract investments and generate qualified employment in key sectors such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, defense, and telecommunications.

The IND+I Day was also the platform chosen by Hereu to advocate for talent, innovation, and education as fundamental pillars of the European industrial future. He also emphasized the need to establish a stable regulatory framework through a new Law on Industry and Strategic Autonomy that supports this transformation in the coming decades.

With an eye on 2036, the IND+I aims to contribute to the reinvention of value chains and strengthen the European project, betting on an industry that defends democratic values.
