Robles advocates for European unity and strategic anticipation in defence policy

In Brussels, during the meeting of EU Defense Ministers, Spanish Minister Margarita Robles reaffirmed Spain’s strong support for Ukraine and highlighted the need for an updated analysis of the threats facing the bloc.

In her speech, Robles emphasized the importance of having a 360-degree perspective to anticipate challenges and improve the security of European citizens.

The ministers discussed various topics, including advancements in support for Ukraine and industrial cooperation between the EU and this country. At the working lunch, the Ukrainian Defense Minister, Mijailo Fedorov, participated via videoconference, which underscored international coordination in support of this nation. Robles reiterated that European unity is key to maintaining effective support in military, industrial, and humanitarian areas.

Another important point of the meeting was the situation in Lebanon, where Spain has deployed nearly 700 troops. Robles highlighted the crucial role of the Armed Forces in the stability of the region, emphasizing that security in Lebanon and other areas such as the Sahel and the Indian Ocean must receive continuous attention. The minister also stressed the need for a coordinated and strategic response to the crisis in the Middle East, to ensure European security and respect for international law.
