The next Thursday, May 21 at 11 a.m., the Fundación Alternativas will hold a webinar in which it will present the report Africa facing the financing crisis for development: Challenges and opportunities.

The withdrawal of development aid by the United States (USAID) has marked a turning point in global dynamics. This has led to the dismantling of programs without a transition process, leaving populations without basic coverage such as health and education. At the same time, it has sparked debate about development financing models and how they should be structured in the future. From the African continent, there is a call for more equitable negotiation models in which the local context and sovereignty are placed at the center.

USAID (United States Agency for International Development) was dismantled by the Trump administration. Throughout 2025, the U.S. government formalized the definitive closure of the agency and the cancellation of more than 80% of its global programs. The remaining foreign assistance projects were transferred directly to the State Department.

The event and the debate can be followed on the YouTube channel of the Foundation.
