The Embassy of the Dominican Republic, the General Consulate of the Dominican Republic in Madrid, and the Institute of Dominicans Abroad (INDEX) invite you to a very special event to honor Dominican mothers.
Next Saturday, May 23rd starting at 5 PM (doors open at 4:15 PM), the Dominican Mother’s Day will be celebrated at UGT Madrid (Av. de América, 25). Free entry until capacity is reached.
In the Dominican Republic, Mother’s Day was officially established as a national holiday through Law No. 370, enacted in 1926. The celebration began to gain strength in the 1930s, promoted by educational, religious institutions, and media, until it became one of the most emotional dates on the national calendar.
In Dominican society, the maternal figure is central. Whether as a caregiver, provider, counselor, or guide, many mothers assume multiple roles in the family unit. Mother’s Day is, therefore, an opportunity not only to give gifts but also to recognize the social, emotional, and spiritual value of their presence in the lives of their children.
The celebrations include masses in their honor, serenades, family gatherings, and public tributes, both in communities and in the media. It is common for schools and colleges to organize special activities throughout the entire preceding week.
The event will be a party on an afternoon full of joy, surprises, and the unmistakable warmth of the Dominican people, with artistic performances and raffles.
