The second edition of the Czech-Spanish Days is presented

Segunda edición de las Jornadas Checo-Españolas

From May 28 to June 11, the 2nd edition of the Czech-Spanish Days will be held in Madrid, a series of cultural, professional, and social activities aimed at strengthening relations between the Czech Republic and Spain.

The project is organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in collaboration with the Czech Centre Madrid and offers a platform for dialogue and cooperation between both countries.

This year’s edition is dedicated to the figure of František Suchý (in the photo), director of the crematorium of Strašnice, who during the Nazi and communist regimes hid the ashes of the victims so they could receive a dignified burial in the future. Among them were also the remains of several Spaniards who died during World War II in the concentration camp of Hradištko, near Prague.

The Days thus invite reflection on historical memory, responsibility, and shared European values, while creating a meeting space between professionals and the general public, contributing to the strengthening of cultural and social ties between both countries.

The program of activities is as follows:

28/5 | Echoes of Prague Castle: concert by the brass quintet with organist Lucie Žáková (at 7 PM in the Pontifical Basilica of San Miguel, Madrid).

Concert Echoes of Prague Castle, with the Brass Quintet of the Music of the Castle Guard of Prague and the Police of the Czech Republic and organist Lucie Žáková. A musical journey that dialogues the majesty of the organ with the timbral richness of the brass quintet. The program covers a wide stylistic spectrum, from Baroque to contemporary compositions, combining works for solo organ with ensemble arrangements.

The audience will be able to listen to pieces by authors such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Händel, or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, alongside Czech composers such as Petr Eben or Pavel Staněk. The musical selection alternates moments of solemnity, spirituality, and virtuosity with others of a festive and dynamic character.

Tickets will be available through the official channels of the basilica.

29/5 | Inauguration of the monument to František Suchý (Madrid) 12 PM. Madrid Río Park, near the Puente de Praga bridge.

A monument dedicated to František Suchý will be inaugurated in Madrid, a hero who, as director of the crematorium of Strašnice, during the Nazi and communist repression, hid the ashes of the victims so they could receive a dignified burial in the future. The monument is the work of academic sculptor Jakub Vlček.

The inauguration of the monument will constitute a worthy tribute to the extraordinary human history of František Suchý, as well as to the shared historical ties between the Czech Republic and Spain.

František Suchý, during World War II, risked his life to preserve the remains of thousands of victims of the Nazi regime. Among them were also Spanish citizens deported to the concentration camp of Hradištko, near Prague.

9/6 | Concert by Matyáš Novák (Santiago de Compostela)

11/6 | Piano concert by Matyáš Novák (Madrid)
