During her visit to the Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) Headquarters in Northwood, United Kingdom, Defense Minister Margarita Robles reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to maritime security within NATO.

During her meeting with the commander of the headquarters, Robles emphasized that “Spain is a serious, reliable, and committed ally,” highlighting the professionalism and availability of the Spanish Navy.

Robles stressed the vital role of the Navy in the Permanent Naval Groups, which are essential for deterrence and the development of maritime capabilities within the Alliance. “The availability and professionalism of the Navy are beyond doubt,” she stated, adding that other member countries recognize this commitment.

The minister also spoke with Admiral Robert G. Pedre, commander of MARCOM, about the current maritime strategic situation and threats in the Euro-Atlantic environment. Additionally, she was accompanied by Admiral Juan Francisco Martínez Núñez, Secretary General of Defense Policy, during her visit to the Spanish contingent, which is the sixth largest in Northwood.
