The Ministry of Labor and Social Economy has issued a recommendation to the Government Delegations to promote teleworking during the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Madrid, Canary Islands, and Catalonia.
This measure seeks to protect the safety of workers and minimize unnecessary travel in a context where mobility restrictions could be established.
The recommendation is framed within the need to ensure the normal development of services and economic activities during the scheduled events. In case the competent authorities impose limitations on access to workplaces, the Ministry suggests that employers consider teleworking for those positions that allow this modality, provided that the appropriate technical conditions are met.
Additionally, employers and workers are urged to plan in advance the necessary organizational measures, including the voluntary agreement to implement remote work. This recommendation is based on Article 37.3 g of the Workers’ Statute and Law 10/2021, of July 9, which regulate remote work in exceptional situations such as the one that could arise during the papal visit.
