On the occasion of the reception of the second rotation of the contingent of the operation ‘Support for Turkey’, which has been working for more than a decade to ensure security in the region, the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, emphasized the important role played by the Spanish Armed Forces in international security, especially in areas of high volatility.

The contingent, composed of 138 military personnel, has been operating in Turkey and is responsible for protecting the country’s airspace through the use of a ‘Patriot’ battery. This technology has been highly valued by the Turkish authorities, Robles stated, highlighting that the work of the Spanish military has been fundamental in minimizing risks in a context marked by the crisis in the Middle East.

During the event held in Seville, the minister thanked the effort and dedication of the soldiers, also recognizing the importance of the support from their families. “Without you, the missions would not be possible,” Robles stated, emphasizing that the empathy and support of families are crucial for the success of the Armed Forces’ operations. The military of the second rotation returns after six months of deployment at the Incirlik airbase in Adana, where Spain maintains its commitment to NATO’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense.
