On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of Juan Pablo Duarte, the Embassy of the Dominican Republic and the Duartiano Institute, Madrid branch, held a floral tribute in his honor at the bust dedicated to the Father of the Dominican Fatherland, located in the Paseo de Camoens in the Parque del Oeste in Madrid.
The event was attended by the ambassador Tony Raful; the consul general of the Dominican Republic in Madrid, José Marte Piantini; the president of the Duartiano Institute Madrid branch, Jeannette Alfau; representatives from the Institute of Dominicans and Dominicans Abroad (INDEX), and members of the Dominican community residing in Spain.
During the ceremony, attendees paid tribute to Juan Pablo Duarte and reaffirmed their commitment to preserving his historical legacy and the values of freedom, sovereignty, and national identity that gave rise to the Dominican Republic.
Juan Pablo Duarte y Díez (1813–1876) was a Dominican military leader, politician, and thinker, and a key ideologue who organized the revolutionary movement to free the Dominican people from Haitian domination and any foreign power.
