Last Thursday, July 16, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, José Manuel Albares, met with his Gabonese counterpart, Marie-Édith Tassyla-Ye-Doumbeneny, at the Viana Palace.
During this meeting, both leaders discussed the excellent bilateral relations and signed an agreement on political consultations, with the aim of institutionalizing and strengthening high-level contacts between both countries.
The topics discussed include political, economic, cultural, and consular issues. The meeting also addressed international and regional matters, highlighting the potential for collaboration in areas such as the green transition, infrastructure, renewable energies, and Spanish language teaching. It is worth mentioning that Gabon ranks fifth in Sub-Saharan Africa in terms of the number of Spanish students.
Albares took the opportunity to congratulate Gabon on the success of its political transition, emphasizing the importance of the Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028. This plan is presented as a key instrument to transform the old donor-beneficiary relationship into a new dynamic based on mutual respect and benefit between Spain and its African partners.
