As part of the exhibition program surrounding the collection of Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza (Paseodel Prado, 8) hosts a monographic exhibition dedicated to the Polish artist Ewa Juszkiewicz until September 6.
The artist Ewa Juszkiewicz (1984, Gdańsk, Poland) reinterprets the visual codes of the classic European portrait, questioning the way female beauty has been represented throughout the history of art. Through the use of deconstruction and transformation of the canonical image of women in traditional painting, Juszkiewicz recontextualizes this genre from a contemporary prism that opens new and multiple readings.
The artist’s works stand out for the combination of a meticulous painting technique with provocative and subversive content, resulting in pieces that draw from the past and present themselves as transgressive.
Throughout her career, Ewa Juszkiewicz has exhibited in important international institutions, such as the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the Centre Pompidou-Metz, the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, the Museo Picasso Málaga, and the National Museum of China in Beijing, among others. Her work is part of the collections of museums such as the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the Albertina Museum in Vienna, the Long Museum in Shanghai, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego.
