On August 1st, the Dominican Republic was the guest of honor at the Emigrant Day 2026, celebrated in the Asturian locality of Pola de Allande, one of the municipalities from which the most emigrants left for the Dominican country in search of a better future.

On behalf of the embassy of the Dominican Republic, the counselor Ángel Salvador Bergés Peña participated in this emotional day, which paid tribute to the deep mark that Allandese emigration left in the Dominican Republic and to the strong historical, cultural, and human ties that continue to unite both peoples.

The Embassy informs that the celebration included “the moving testimonies of Allandese emigrants who shared their life experiences in the Dominican Republic, the traditional floral offering at the Monument to the Emigrant and a complete cultural program with the participation of the Real Banda de Gaitas Ciudad de Oviedo, traditional Dominican music and dances, including the performance of the Ballet Dominicano en Europa, as a symbol of the cultural exchange that has strengthened the relationship between our countries for generations.”

“This commemoration,” concludes the Embassy’s statement, “highlights the shared history between Asturias and the Dominican Republic, forged through emigration and generations of families that built a bridge between both territories.” The Embassy thus reaffirms “its commitment to continue promoting initiatives that preserve this common memory and strengthen the bonds of friendship, cooperation, and cultural exchange between the Dominican Republic and Spain.”
