The diplomat Lembit Uibo presented his Copies d’Usage last Tuesday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation as the new ambassador of Estonia in Spain.
Lembit Uibo (born June 27, 1971). He graduated from the Estonian School of Diplomacy and has a master’s degree in European and comparative law from Maastricht University. In 1999, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participating in the accession talks as a diplomat in the European Union Law Division and preparing the Accession Treaty with the European Union.
This Estonian diplomat has been a government representative at the Court of Justice of the European Union, ambassador to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union, and ambassador to the Czech Republic and Belgium. Between 2018 and 2021, Lembit Uibo was the Director General of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Prior to his appointment as ambassador in Spain, since November 2021, Lembit Uibo was the ambassador of Estonia in France. In addition to Monaco, he was co-accredited in Iraq and Tunisia.
In 2023, regarding Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, Uibo emphasized the unity of the West and the need to continue helping Ukraine. “Russia’s aggression is threatening the order that guarantees the peaceful coexistence of states, international law, and the influence and survival of the United Nations Charter,” said Ambassador Uibo.
Lembit Uibo replaces the ambassador Andres Rundu, a diplomat who leaves an excellent memory of his time in Spain, a position he held since October 2022.
