On August 11, the Honorary Consul of Ireland in Galicia, Gwen Colvin, had a meeting with the Irish band The Corrs before their concert in Vigo.

During the meeting, the consul gave them some Keltoi t-shirts, the Gaelic football club from Vigo. Founded in 2014, it is part of the Galician Gaelic Football Association and the GAA, the organization that regulates Gaelic sports, which are becoming increasingly popular in Galicia.

The meeting reflects the strong ties between Ireland and Spain, specifically with Galicia through culture, sport, and tourism. In a recent interview, Gwen Colvin highlighted how more and more Irish people are discovering Galicia through the Camino de Santiago, attracted by its landscapes and local hospitality.

Gwen Colvin has been collaborating for years with the Vigo club and usually hands out Keltoi t-shirts, a term used by the Greeks to refer to the Celts, to some politician from her country. Last July, Gwen Colvin gave another t-shirt to the Speaker of the Dáil Éireann, Verona Murphy, during a visit to her country’s institution.

Recently, a selection of Galician Gaelic football players participated in Eire in an international competition dedicated to Irish sports. Keltoi was established in 2014 and is part of the Galician Gaelic Football Association and the GAA. In 2022, Keltoi achieved its first official absolute titles by winning the Cup and the All-Galicia tournament.

“The acclaimed performance by The Corrs reminded concert attendees of the close relationship between Ireland and Galicia, united by culture, their Atlantic roots, and a friendship that continues to grow,” recalls the Embassy of Ireland from its social media.
