On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence, a solemn flag-raising ceremony was held at the embassy of the Asian country on Friday, August 14. The Chargé d’Affaires, Omer Manzoor, performed the emotional act to the sound of the national anthem.
During the ceremony, the third secretaries, Neha Naveed, Nimra Naeem and Khizar Farooq, read the messages from the president, the prime minister, and the deputy prime minister.
In his speech, Omer Manzoor reflected on the importance of Pakistan’s Independence Day and paid tribute to “the vision, struggle, and sacrifices that made the creation of an independent homeland possible.” He also referred to Pakistan’s success in Marka-e-Haq and acknowledged “the dedication and professionalism of the Armed Forces in safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.”
After highlighting the important role of the Pakistani diaspora, the Pakistani Chargé d’Affaires praised the community in Spain for serving as a valuable bridge between Pakistan and Spain and for positively contributing to the economies and societies of both countries. He noted that “Pakistanis residing abroad represent the country and play a fundamental role in promoting Pakistan’s image and strengthening bilateral relations.” He also expressed his confidence in Pakistan’s continued progress as a “resilient, modern, and forward-looking” nation.
Furthermore, Omer Manzoor emphasized Pakistan’s role as a mediator in important global issues, including the conflict between Iran and the United States. He also mentioned that the historic Joint Defense Agreement of Mecca between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey “marks an important milestone in regional cooperation, reflecting a shared commitment to collective peace and stability, and also underscores Pakistan’s growing role in fostering unity and strategic cooperation among the sister nations of the Muslim world.”
Finally, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Pakistan reiterated the embassy’s commitment to providing the Pakistani community with accessible, courteous, and efficient consular services. He also extended warm greetings on the occasion of Independence Day to Pakistanis in Spain and around the world.
Numerous members of the Pakistani community and Spanish friends attended the event. It concluded with a mili naghma from Pakistan, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony.
