From April 14 to 29, there will be a route through Madrid and Zaragoza where signature drinks made with 100% Colombian coffee will be presented.

The Embassy of Colombia inaugurated its coffee diplomacy yesterday with the presentation of ‘Coffee Master Spain’, a competitive experience that will bring together coffee lovers, specialty cafes, experts, and the general public around coffee culture.

Ambassador Eduardo Ávila emphasized during the event the importance for the Colombian Government to promote one of its most outstanding products abroad. “Coffee,” he said, “as a symbol of Colombian identity, is also a key tool of our cultural and coffee diplomacy” that helps to “strengthen the ties between Colombia and Spain.”

The event aims to connect culture, gastronomy, innovation, and origin, “positioning Colombian coffee as the central axis of an experience that combines training, competition, tasting, and cultural diplomacy,” the Embassy of Colombia indicates in a press release.

For fifteen days, from April 14 to 29, some of the best specialty cafes in Madrid and Zaragoza will participate in a route where they will present signature drinks made with 100% Colombian coffee, specially created for the contest. The public will be an active part of the competition by voting for their favorite proposals, alongside a specialized professional jury.

‘Coffee Master Spain‘ has the institutional support of the Government of Colombia —through Procolombia—, the Embassy of Colombia in Spain —as part of the cultural and coffee diplomacy strategy— and the Government of Aragón, through the campaign ‘Aragón, true flavor’.

At the inauguration, which will take place on April 14 at the Embassy, chef Edwin Rodríguez, the only Colombian with a Michelin star in Europe, will offer an exclusive gastronomic tasting for attendees.

The cycle will continue on April 23, with two events organized by Procolombia in collaboration with the Embassy. On one hand, the ‘Tasting of specialty coffee and cocoa’, a sensory experience through the regions of Colombia aimed at key players in the export, investment, and tourism sectors. On the other hand, the Forum ‘Specialty Coffee from Colombia in Spain’ will establish a dialogue space around the future of this product in Spain, addressing topics such as sustainability, specialty, and connection with origin.

On April 27 there will be a conversation and a tasting of Colombian coffees at Casa de América. It is a space for dialogue and reflection on coffee and cocoa as cultural products and engines of social transformation.

At the closing, on April 29 at the Zaragoza Congress Palace, chef Luciana Calle will present the concept ‘Clock of Colombian coffee’, which represents different regions of Colombia and their ways of accompanying coffee and cocoa. In addition, she will participate in activities within specialty cafes.

The contest will recognize the excellence of the best signature drinks with differentawards:

  • The best signature drink, selected by a jury of experts, will receive a professional Sanremo D8, valued at over 5,000 euros, courtesy of the official sponsor Sanremo Coffee Machines.
  • The best signature drink voted by the public will be awarded a trip to Colombia to visit a coffee farm, thanks to the sponsorship of Avianca, the official airline of the event.
  • The coffee lover who registers the highest number of votes during the route will also receive a trip to Colombia, where they will enjoy a complete experience on a coffee farm.

The jury will be led by recognized experts in the field, including the Spanish champion of coffee tasters Marisa Baqué, a national reference in tasting and roasting.
