The new counsellor for Economic Affairs at the Embassy of Angola, André da Conceiçao, assured, during his presentation before a large group of Spanish and Angolan entrepreneurs, that “the doors of our offices will always be open to all those interested in doing business with Angola.”
Da Conceiçao replaces advisor María Emilia Almeida, who has led the economic department of the Embassy for the last four years, during which she “has done an excellent job promoting economic relations with Spain,” as highlighted by ambassador Balbina Malheiros Dias da Silva.
María Emilia Almeida returns to Luanda as advisor to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. During the four years she has spent in Spain, economic relations between both countries have experienced continuous development. Specifically, since 2022, trade has grown at an annualized rate of 10.6% while investments, through the initiative Global Gateway de la UE and the Sustainable Investment Facilitation Agreement (SIFA), are expected to increase significantly in the coming years.
In recent years, the Embassy of Angola in Spain has deployed an active strategy focused on promoting Spanish capital investments in various sectors of its economy, such as agri-food, shipbuilding, and industrial equipment manufacturing. The Government of Luanda is also seeking investors for its flagship project, the Lobito railway, for whose modernization a tender will be opened in May, as announced by Angola’s Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, during his visit to Spain in February.
