II Congreso África-España

The days 6, 7, and 8 of May, Casa África (Alfonso XIII street, 5, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) celebrates the II International Congress Digital Dialogues Africa–Spain, with the motto Social Sciences and Digital Humanities.

This congress arises from the collaboration and dialogue between academic institutions, social agents, and professionals committed to a critical and shared reflection on the processes of digital transformation in Africa and Spain.

Focusing on digital transformation, the dissemination of knowledge, and connected cultures, this congress aims to contribute to the analysis of the challenges and opportunities posed by digitalization from a perspective respectful of the realities, knowledge, and decisions of African societies, while fostering the exchange of experiences between Africa and Spain.

This event is possible thanks to the involvement of institutions such as the Intercontinental Alliance of Urban Studies (AIEU), the research group AFRICAInEs from the University of Granada, the ULPGC, the AECID or the Instituto Cervantes , as well as all the researchers, professionals, entrepreneurs, and social agents participating in this edition, either as speakers or as the audience. Their commitment and contributions make this space for dialogue and shared learning possible.

This 2nd edition will consolidate the congress as an academic and professional meeting space for researchers, professionals, and social agents. Under the title Digital Dialogues it retains the same motto as the first edition: Social Sciences and Digital Humanities, but focusing on Digital Transformation, dissemination of knowledge, and connected cultures, with the aim of reflecting on the processes of digital transformation in Africa and Spain from a critical, collaborative, and transdisciplinary perspective.

To attend the congress as an audience, one can do so both in person (at Casa África) and virtually (via Zoom) and in both cases prior registration is required.

The congress offers several thematic tables that will feature:

In-person presentations: these planned tables will have between three and five speakers who will discuss the specific topics addressed in each of them. They are discussion tables where the members present their presentations in a coordinated manner, promoting deeper debates and interdisciplinary approaches.

Virtual presentations: the communications that have been accepted (the submission deadline ended on March 22) will be presented in video format and will be available, associated with each thematic table, on the website and on Casa África’s YouTube channel.

Keynote presentations: both at the opening and closing, keynote presentations related to the themes of the congress will be included.

The scheduled tables are:

Digitalization of African archives in Africa and Spain

Conflicts in the era of misinformation

African women and diaspora facing digital challenges and violence

Digitalization, gender, and community savings: challenges and learnings from cooperation in West Africa

Understanding the impact of digitalization on gender, culture, and empowerment

Digital activism (minorities, racism)

Digital entrepreneurship, business, and commerce in a digital key

The complete program of the congress can be consulted in the attached document.
