Last Monday, May 4, the ambassadors of Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil participated in a working session within the framework of the provisional entry into force of the commercial pillar of the MERCOSUR-EU Agreement.

The event, convened by the Secretary of State for Trade, Amparo López Senovilla, was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Business of Spain, and brought together these ambassadors, founding countries of MERCOSUR, as well as high Spanish authorities, with the commitment to translate agreements into concrete results from day one.

“We are working with renewed energy to strengthen ties, boost trade, and generate new opportunities for joint development,” stated the Argentine Embassy.

For his part, the ambassador of Paraguay, Justo Apodaca, highlighted the historic nature of this moment and noted that “the agreement is a key opportunity to strengthen international insertion, diversify markets, and enhance the country’s economic development.” Likewise, the Uruguayan head, Bernardo Greiver, described the work done during the session as “all very positive.”

Paraguay, which currently holds the pro tempore Presidency of the South American bloc, reaffirmed its commitment to its implementation, emphasizing that “integration and cooperation are fundamental pillars for sustainable development.”

The head of the Secretary of State for Trade reiterated Spain’s role as “a strategic partner and bridge between Europe and South America, promoting the implementation of the agreement and betting on greater integration, stronger supply chains, and shared economic resilience.”

From the Paraguayan Embassy, it was emphasized “the relevance of this type of space to strengthen ties, coordinate efforts, and move forward together towards greater cooperation.”
