Presidenciales de elecciones en Colombia del 31 de mayo

The presidential elections in Colombia, which will be held on May 31, come at a time of political transition and redefinition of national priorities. As part of the ‘America votes’ cycle, Casa América presents next Tuesday, May 19 at 6 PM in its Salón Bolívar the debate Presidential Elections in Colombia: The New Colombian Political Cycle. Trends and Scenarios.

The country faces this event with open debates on security, social reforms, economic sustainability, and the implementation of public policies in an environment of increasing citizen demand for institutional effectiveness and leadership renewal. The fragmentation of the political landscape and the growing importance of territories reflect a transforming cycle that connects with dynamics present in much of Latin America.

The electoral process also takes place in a sensitive international context. In recent months, relations between Colombia and the United States have shown episodes of tension, especially regarding security issues, anti-drug cooperation, and divergent orientations in foreign policy. These frictions add a relevant geopolitical dimension to the internal debate and may influence the agenda of the next government, as well as the country’s position within the Ibero-American space.

In this context, the ‘America votes’ cycle dedicates a session to analyze the keys to these presidential elections: the evolution of the party system, the trends of the electorate, the issues that structure the campaign, the impact of socioeconomic factors, and the regional implications of the different scenarios.

The debate will feature Carlos Malamud, professor of American History at UNED and Latin America researcher at the Real Instituto Elcano; Marcela Puentes, journalist at Caracol Radio, and Juan Pablo Calvas, journalist at W Radio Colombia and columnist for El País América. Free entry until capacity is reached.
