The Minister of Foreign Affairs maintains a frantic agenda to ensure support and the presence of as many countries as possible at the Ibero-American Summit that will take place in Madrid on November 4 and 5. Therefore, taking advantage of his presence at the Feminist Foreign Policy Conference, he met on Wednesday with the Foreign Ministers of Colombia and Andorra.

The Spanish Government does not want a repeat of the disaster of 2024, when, for various reasons, only three heads of state attended the XXIX Summit in Cuenca (Ecuador), especially in the current geopolitical context, in which the United States has ceased to be a reliable partner for both Europe and Latin America.

During the meeting with both ministers, Rosa Villavicencio and Imma Tor Faus, Albares addressed the preparatory work for the Ibero-American summit in Madrid and emphasized the commitment shown by the Governments of Colombia and Andorra to the summit system and to the Spanish proposals to reaffirm and update the Ibero-American Community of Nations.

He also highlighted “their active participation at the highest level in the sectoral ministerial meetings, forums, and preparatory meetings for the Madrid Summit on matters of great interest, as evidenced in the ministerial meeting on Environment and Climate held last March in Málaga or the digital transition and the development of artificial intelligence.”

The Foreign Minister also met on Wednesday with the Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States, Noemí Espinoza, who confirmed her participation in the Ibero-American Summit. The aim of this meeting was to promote the rapprochement of the Ibero-American Community to the Caribbean, one of the priorities of the pro tempore Secretariat of Spain, as stated in the Declaration of Seville, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
