The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, participated in the ministerial meeting of the OECD in Paris, where he highlighted Spain’s firm commitment to Official Development Assistance (ODA). During his speech at the working lunch, focused on industrial policies, investment, and development, Albares emphasized the importance of consolidating effective instruments to face current challenges, reiterating that Spain adheres to the 0.7% aid target in its legislation, even in an adverse global context.
Albares emphasized that international cooperation should not be used as a tool for geopolitical competition, and highlighted the need for a more collaborative and less confrontational approach in the field of aid. This message is particularly relevant in the context of the recent publication of the OECD’s quarterly report on Economic Outlook, which indicates solid growth for Spain despite global uncertainty.
In addition, the minister met with Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the OECD, to express Spain’s commitment to multilateralism and its support for the organization’s leadership. This meeting also discussed preparations for the Ministerial Dialogue of the Regional Program for Latin America and the Caribbean, which will take place in Madrid on July 1, where Spain is expected to play an active role.
