The Ambassador of Greece in Spain, Apostolos Baltas, will participate in the inauguration of the 9th Biennial Conference of the International Association for Presocratic Studies (IAPS), which will be held at the Complutense University of Madrid from tomorrow Monday, June 22, until Friday, June 26.
Over the next five days, around a hundred international experts arriving from all over the world will debate presocratic thought.
Under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece, the Complutense University of Madrid will host this prestigious meeting for the first time in Spain, whose first edition took place at the Brigham Young University in Provo (Utah) in 2008. Two years later, the University of Edinburgh took over. It was followed by the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mérida (2012); the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2014); the University of Texas in Austin (2016); the European Cultural Center of Delphi (2018), which repeated in 2022 due to the disruption caused by the pandemic; and in 2024 the 8th Conference will be held at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Brazil.
The participating experts in the marathon sessions that will take place in the faculties of Philology and Philosophy at the Complutense University, will present papers on philosophical, philological, textual, doxographical, historical, and scientific topics related to presocratic thinkers, with the aim of “illuminating early Greek philosophy,” as this organization points out on its website.
