The future that opens up in the Middle East due to the war unleashed by Israel and the United States against Iran and its consequences for the reconfiguration of power balances in the region were the subject of analysis during the Meeting with the professor of Arab and Islamic Studies at the Complutense University Ignacio Álvarez-Ossorio Alvariño organized by Diplomacy News at the Hyatt Hesperia Hotel in collaboration with the Association of Foreign Diplomats (ADE).
More than forty people, including a dozen ambassadors, representing 25 embassies attended the debate held under the title ‘The reconfiguration of the Middle East: challenges and threats’, in which the role of the great powers —the United States and China— in the area was reviewed, as well as the role of other actors, such as the European Union, Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, among others.
The ‘Meetings’ of DiplomacyNews raise debates on current geopolitical issues as well as others related to Spanish politics. In all cases, the aim is that the discussions are useful for foreign diplomats stationed in Spain.
The next Meeting of Diplomacy News, the date and speaker of which will be announced in the coming days, will address the political situation in Spain when there is practically one year left until the end of the legislature.
