The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has visited the Naval Base of Rota to supervise the progress of the adaptation works that will allow the arrival of the new F-110 frigates and aircraft.
This modernization process, which includes the incorporation of a parts manufacturing center and the updating of technological infrastructures, reaffirms the importance of this base in strengthening the capabilities of the Navy and the Spanish Armed Forces.
During her visit, Robles met with Vice Admiral José María Ibáñez Martín, the new Admiral of the Arsenal of Cádiz, as well as with the Commander of the US Navy Escort Group in Europe. In addition, she had the opportunity to closely observe the Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 79, a unit of helicopters from the United States Navy that is permanently deployed in Rota, highlighting international collaboration on defense issues.
The creation of the Center for Specialization in Manufacturing and Repair of Navy Parts (CESFARE) stands out, which has already produced more than 2,700 components. The base is also in the process of incorporating new NH-90 helicopters and the arrival of the MH-60R, which will significantly improve naval aviation capabilities. With an investment exceeding 250 million euros by 2030, key infrastructures are being developed, such as new hangars and simulators, to prepare for the arrival of the F-110 frigates, the first unit of which is expected in 2028.
