On the occasion of the International Year of Averroes, which commemorates the 900th anniversary of the birth of the Andalusian philosopher (Córdoba, 1126), the Instituto Cervantes will host next Tuesday, April 14, in its auditorium at 7 PM a meeting dedicated to reflecting on his thought and intellectual legacy.
The day International Year of Averroes. The opportunity of reason will open with a plenary conference led by Andrés Martínez Lorca, professor of Philosophy and one of the main Spanish specialists in the work and reception of Averroes. Following that, there will be a discussion in which, along with the speaker, members of the organizing committee and two invited specialists from the academic field will participate, including Luz Gómez García (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) and Emilio González Ferrín (Universidad de Sevilla).
The event will be presented by the director of the Instituto Cervantes, Luis García Montero, and by Carmen Calvo, president of the Council of State.
This dialogue will allow for a deeper understanding of the relevance of Averroist thought and its influence on the philosophical and cultural tradition. Observations: In-person and online activity.
