VII Report on Inequality in Spain.

In collaboration with the Fundación Primero de Mayo and Oxfam Intermon, the Fundación Alternativas presents next Thursday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at the Economic and Social Council of Spain (Huertas Street, 73) the VII Report on Inequality in Spain. Economic, Gender, and Public Policy Inequalities.

In a context of uncertainty marked by the cost of living crisis and technological and energy transitions, this report offers a series of analyses on the new inequalities in Spain and the European Union. The erosion of social welfare is manifested today in structural gaps that affect access to housing, educational quality, and health equity, consolidating a citizen discontent that weakens the social contract.

From the regressive impact of inflation on vulnerable households to the residential exclusion of young cohorts and the persistence of child poverty, everything seems to indicate that the protection system faces serious challenges. This document integrates key dimensions such as the organization of care, the gender digital divide, and the effects on inequality of territorial financing. Through this strategic perspective, various reforms aimed at restoring cohesion and ensuring inclusive development in the face of 21st-century transformations are proposed.

The report will be presented by Antón Costas, president of the Economic and Social Council; Jesús Ruiz Huerta, director of the Public Policy Laboratory of the Alternativas Foundation and co-director of the Report; Olga Salido, professor of Sociology at UCM and co-director of the Report; Vicente López, director of the 1st of May Foundation, and Ernesto García, coordinator of the Knowledge Unit of the Socioeconomic Justice Area at Oxfam Intermón.

Subsequently, there will be a round table in which Alejandro Tiana, former Secretary of State for Education (2018-2022) and former rector of UNED (2013-2018); José Manuel Freire, Emeritus Professor in the Department of International Health at the National School of Health; Luis Ayala, professor of Economics at UNED, and Milagros Paniagua, director of the State Agency for the Evaluation of Public Policies will participate. The table will be moderated by Olga Salido, professor of Sociology at UCM and co-director of the Report. Access to the debate requires registration at this link.
