This past June 5th, the world celebrated World Environment Day, a date officially established in 1973 and coordinated by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This year, the Republic of Azerbaijan becomes the host country, offering a global platform dedicated to action and awareness on environmental issues.
This year’s slogan, ForTheClimateNow, underscores the urgency of climate action, encompassing not only the reduction of emissions but also the profound transformation of our production, consumption, and relationship with the environment. The theme for 2026 will focus on urgent climate action, highlighting three inseparable pillars: prevention, mitigation, and adaptation, which are essential to face the challenge of climate change.
The Spanish minister José Manuel Albares, at the OECD ministerial meeting, reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to energy transition and the development of clean technologies. Spain seeks to increase the use of renewable energies, advance towards climate neutrality by 2050, and contribute to international funds that support the most vulnerable countries. This approach not only strengthens Spain’s position in climate diplomacy but also promotes a more resilient economic model in the face of the challenges of the 21st century.
