The United States Ambassador, Benjamin León, Jr., and the Consul General Lia Miller inaugurated last week the new event hall of the Consulate General of the United States in Barcelona.

This renovated space is named after Ruth Davis, a historical figure in American diplomacy, who passed away in May 2025 after more than 40 years of diplomatic career.

Ruth Davis, Consul General in Barcelona from 1987 to 1991, played a key role in the acquisition of the Torre Godó Eguía, the current headquarters of the consulate.

“This new space honors the legacy of Ruth Davis and, at the same time, opens new doors to dialogue, cultural exchange, and our commitment to Barcelona society,” emphasized Ambassador León during the inauguration ceremony, which brought together institutional, business, and civil society representatives, as well as family, friends, and former colleagues of Ruth Davis.

The American diplomat who has given her name to the new space was the first African American woman appointed as Career Ambassador, the highest rank in the Foreign Service, and she was its twenty-fourth director general.
