Canary Islands will host the fourth edition of the Ibero-American Tourism Forum in 2027 —the main space for dialogue, cooperation, and public-private action in the region’s tourism industry— which will allow for the continuation of the consensus reached in Honduras and progress in following up on the commitments made during the third edition, held in San Pedro Sula (Honduras).
The archipelago will become the main meeting point for the sector in Ibero-America in 2027, once again bringing together the drivers of tourism: government officials, business leaders, multilateral organizations, institutions, academia, and experts from across the region, to continue building a stronger, more inclusive, competitive, and, above all, human tourism industry.
Canary Islands thus takes over from the third edition, which marked a milestone in the trajectory of the Ibero-American Tourism Forum. The event held from June 1 to 3 in San Pedro Sula (Honduras), under the slogan “Technology and development: intelligence that empowers territories,” brought together more than 700 in-person participants, over a hundred experts from 23 countries, and representatives from governments, multilateral organizations, business organizations, universities, and companies from all over Ibero-America.
This third edition culminated with the approval of the “Commitment of San Pedro Sula: from dialogue to action, systemic capacities for tourism transformation in Ibero-America,” a roadmap agreed upon by the organizing institutions and organizations, which aims to strengthen six strategic capacities considered essential for the future of tourism: governance, tourism intelligence, financing, talent, sustainability, and regional cooperation.
The institutional presentation of the next edition featured the participation of Pedro González, representing the Cabildo of Tenerife, and Gustavo González de Vega, Deputy Minister of Economy and Internationalization of the Government of the Canary Islands, who conveyed the islands’ commitment to strengthening the sector and continuing the work developed in this third edition.
Canary Islands is one of the world reference tourist destinations and plays an increasing role as a platform for economic, business, and institutional connection between Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
During his speech, Gustavo González de Vega emphasized that this designation also represents an opportunity to place the islands at the center of the conversations that will shape the future of international tourism.
“The choice of Canary Islands as the venue for the IV edition of the Ibero-American Tourism Forum is a recognition of the international leadership we have built over decades. Canary Islands is not only a tourism powerhouse; it is also a territory that exports knowledge, innovation, and solutions for other destinations,” he stated.
The Deputy Minister also stressed that the archipelago faces this challenge with the willingness to share its experience as a leading destination and to actively contribute to the transformation processes that the tourism sector is experiencing on a global scale.
For his part, Pedro González, insular director of External Action and Institutional Relations of the Cabildo of Tenerife, highlighted the value it will have for the island to host a meeting of this nature and the opportunity it represents to continue strengthening relations with Ibero-American countries.
