The humpback whale watching season is already taking place on the Ecuadorian coast, and Puerto López, in the province of Manabí, is the ideal tourist destination to enjoy this activity from June to September.

Every year, hundreds of humpback whales migrate from the cold waters of Antarctica to the equatorial Pacific to mate and give birth to their young. This extraordinary natural phenomenon attracts thousands of national and foreign tourists who come to closely observe the impressive jumps, tail slaps, and behaviors of these marine mammals in their natural habitat.

Puerto López, the gateway to the Machalilla National Park located in the province of Manabí, is recognized as the main point for whale watching excursions in Ecuador. The tours, operated by authorized vessels and specialized guides, allow visitors to enjoy this experience under strict conservation and responsible tourism standards that ensure the well-being of the species and the protection of their environment.

The season reaches its peak activity between July and August, when it is more common to observe groups of whales, mothers with their calves, and the characteristic jumps that turn each tour into a unique spectacle.

In addition to whale watching, Puerto López offers a wide range of tourist attractions such as Los Frailes beach, considered one of the most beautiful in Ecuador; Isla de la Plata, known for its natural wealth and diversity of seabirds; and the trails of Machalilla National Park, which invite you to discover the ecosystems of the tropical dry forest and the biodiversity of the Ecuadorian coast.

The arrival of visitors during this season represents an important boost for the local economy that benefits hotels, restaurants, tour operators, artisanal fishermen, and community enterprises that are part of the tourism value chain in the area.

Authorities and tourism service providers remind visitors of the importance of hiring authorized operators and respecting the recommendations of guides, in order to contribute to the conservation of humpback whales and promote sustainable tourism.

With this natural spectacle, Puerto López reaffirms its position as one of the main nature destinations in Ecuador and a must-visit for those who wish to experience an unforgettable experience on the Pacific coast.
