The total spending of international tourists in Spain during May 2026 amounts to 13.553 billion euros, representing an increase of 10.9% compared to the same month of the previous year, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Regarding the arrival of tourists, more than 10.3 million visited Spain in May, reflecting a growth of 9.5% compared to last year. In the cumulative total for the first five months of 2026, total spending reached 50.257 billion euros, a 7.8% increase compared to the same period in 2025, while the number of tourists stood at 36.8 million, an increase of 5%.
The United Kingdom led spending with 18.5% of the total, followed by Germany and France. The autonomous communities that contributed the most to spending were Catalonia, Balearic Islands, and Community of Madrid, with Madrid showing an increase of 22.2% compared to May 2025. Additionally, each tourist spent an average of 1,321 euros, indicating that spending continues to grow at a rate higher than that of arrivals.
